AAOS/ORS 2008 Research Symposium Proceedings Published
The proceedings of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)/Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) 2008 Research Symposium "Advanced Imaging and Computer-Assisted Surgery of the Knee and Hip," were published in February 2009 as a supplement to the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS). The symposium was partly funded by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
A series of papers presented at the symposium included the following topics:
- basic science issues in advanced musculoskeletal imaging and computer-assisted surgery
- morphology, intraoperative imaging, and image processing
- knee degeneration
- malalignment and ligamentous injury
- novel approaches to imaging and tracking of hip topology
The annual AAOS research symposia bring together leading experts to address the current state of the field and emerging areas that could have an impact on it; to develop a consensus on future directions in new areas of cooperative research; and to create strategies for the rapid translation of basic research into practice.
