The NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a series of events showcasing the behavioral and social science work of both extramural and intramural researchers across the 27 NIH Institutes and Centers. NIAMS-supported researcher Susmita Kashikar-Zuck, Ph.D., of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, presented her work on "Development of a novel cognitive-behavioral and exercise-based treatment program for adolescents with fibromyalgia: the Fibromyalgia Integrative Training Program for Teens (FIT Teens)," at the NIH symposium held June 25 in the Natcher Conference Center. In addition, Dr. Kashikar-Zuck and Wm. Phil Tonkins Jr., M.S., Dr.P.H., Program Director for NIAMS’ Rheumatic Diseases Biopsychosocial Research Program, participated in a Capitol Hill exhibition and poster session sponsored by the Coalition for the Advancement of Health Through Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (CAHT-BSSR). NIAMS intramural behavioral research was also featured at both the NIH symposium and Capitol Hill events with a poster from the Clinical Trials and Outcomes Branch on "Psychological Time Perspective as a Mediator of Socioeconomic Disparities in Health."
